Reservations
What is a reservation?
It holds your place in the first production run of the Talgo Series VI. It’s free, it isn’t a purchase, charge or deposit, and it doesn’t commit you to buying.
Do I pay anything now?
No. We don’t take payment or collect card details when you reserve. When your set is ready, we’ll email you a link to complete your purchase.
Why do I have to confirm by email?
Confirming proves the address is real and that it’s really you, which keeps the reservation list honest. Your reservation doesn’t count until you click the link in the email.
If you don’t confirm within the time given in the email, the hold is released and offered to the next person.
The confirmation email hasn’t arrived.
Check your spam or promotions folder first. If it isn’t there, email support@carolinacustommodels.com from the address you reserved with and we’ll send a fresh link.
How many can I reserve?
The form shows the limit per person. It keeps one buyer from taking the whole run.
What happens when the run fills up?
The form becomes a waitlist. Once you confirm, we’ll email you your place in the queue. When a reservation is released, it’s offered to the next person in line with a time-limited link to claim it, and everyone behind moves up.
Can I cancel?
Yes, at any time. Your confirmation email has a link that releases your spot with one click, and it passes to the next person on the waitlist.
Are the price and delivery date final?
Anything shown before production is an estimate and is labelled that way. You’ll see the final price before you buy, and you’re free to walk away at that point.
The set
What’s in the set?
All 13 cars of the Series VI consist, assembled: the Power car, Business, Accessible Business, Dining, Bistro, Accessible Coach, six Coaches and the Baggage car. Every passenger car has its own interior insert, and the set comes with a rodal for every joint and painting stencils. You add 36″ RP-25 metal wheels (14), Kadee couplers, weights and assembly screws.
What is it made of?
The shells and interiors are resin-printed, which captures the fine detail: window frames, doors, seats and luggage racks. The chassis are filament-printed in PETG, chosen for strength and heat resistance. PETG holds its shape to about 70 °C (158 °F) and doesn’t soften until around 80 °C (176 °F), some 20 °C higher than PLA, the most common 3D-printing plastic, so the chassis stays straight and the joints stay true in a warm layout room.
What’s the difference between Lighted and Unlighted?
Lighted ($999 per set) adds PCB light boards: end lights for the Power and Baggage cars, with two white ditch lights and two red markers each, and interior lights. The boards come in the box for you to fit, and the end lights need an ESU LokPilot 5 FX or LokSound 5 FX decoder, sold separately. Unlighted is $799 per set. Both come from the same first run, and you choose when you reserve.
What scale is it?
HO, at 1:87.1. The suggested minimum radius is 22″.
What’s a rodal?
The shared wheel unit between Talgo cars. Instead of a truck under each end of every car, adjacent cars share one rodal at the joint, which is what makes a Talgo a Talgo. Every joint in the set rides on a functional one.
Is it painted?
No. The cars come assembled but unpainted, with painting stencils, so you can finish the set in whichever scheme you model. The renders on this site show it unpainted, the way it arrives.
